F-Series Full Spectrum Underwater Lights Featured in BoatUS Magazine
BoatUS Magazine has published a feature examining the technology behind Metro Marine Lighting's F-Series Full Spectrum Underwater Lights, focusing on how the fixtures address two persistent failure points in underwater lighting: marine growth on the lens and condensation inside the housing.
Rather than relying on antifouling coatings that wear off and require seasonal removal, the F-Series generates its antifouling effect from inside the fixture. UVC LEDs, emitting at the same wavelength used in water purification systems, prevent marine growth from attaching to the lens. Metro Marine tested the approach by submerging fixtures in seawater for six months.
Control fixtures without UVC fouled within days and were eventually covered in seaweed and barnacles. The lenses with UVC LEDs remained clear. The article includes video from that test.
The second technology addresses condensation. F-Series fixtures are assembled in a Class 1000 clean room using a patented process that removes all vapor from the housing and replaces it with clean, dry nitrogen, eliminating the internal moisture that causes corrosion and lens fogging.
The feature also covers the F-Series optical package: 18 individually optically lensed RGBW LED configurations with white LEDs integrated alongside RGB for higher quality whites and richer color blends, available in 45 or 90 degree beam angles and round or elongated housings. The F-Series was named a Top Product by Boating Industry magazine earlier this year.
